Special oil is used. The oil change process is the same as a conventional gas vehicle, but the oil used is unique. Due to the diesel engines demands it requires special oil when compared to gas cars or trucks. This is the same with Sprinter Vans (or any other cargo vans). The oil acts differently, burns differently and performs in a special way formulated for the power of a diesel engine. There can be shortages, supply chain issues, and because of the wide array of diesel engine oil varieties, a diesel speciality shop is your best bet.

Yes, typical diesel engines experience more expensive oil changes due to the sometimes unique oil used, but also the quantity of oil used. Most smaller vehicles take about 5 to 6 litres, and diesel engines are sometimes double this amount.
How often for diesel oil change?
Change your diesel engine’s oil every 10,000km (or twice a year). Commonly diesel trucks are work trucks, and can face long commutes and delivery of equipment/materials. Towing increases oil consumption, anything that requires your truck to work harder will consume more oil. So if you’re using your diesel truck at an increased work load we’d suggest more frequent oil changes, probably every 3 months. But we definitely recommend calling us, getting an inspection and discussing with us your driving habits so we can suggest a recommended oil change schedule.
